It's Just A Race! Tips for beginners

Hey there, fellow Bimblers!

So, you're gearing up for your first race alongside other runners, huh? Exciting times! But hey, it's totally normal to feel a bit jittery about it. Trust me, I've been there, done that, got the race t-shirt! With over 15 years of racing under my belt, I've compiled some tips to help ease those pre-race jitters and get you feeling pumped and prepared!

Let's break it down:

The Day Before:

  1. Food: Keep it simple, folks. Opt for easy-to-digest meals like pasta, pizza, or some good ol' meat and veggies. Just steer clear of heavy stuff like curry or loads of salad.

  2. Stay Hydrated: Especially if it's going to be a scorcher out there!

  3. Kit: Get your gear ready! Make sure your trusty socks and undies are washed and raring to go.

  4. Race Number: Pin it to your top if you've got it handy.

  5. Travel Plans: Map out your journey in advance. No one wants to be scrambling around last minute, right?

Here's a handy checklist for your race day essentials:

  • Race day trainers
  • Warm-up trainers (in case of rain or if you're feeling fancy)
  • Running top
  • Soft Strider Shorts or leggings
  • Comfy Bimble and Bolt socks
  • Safety pins or race clips for your number
  • Something cozy for post-race hangouts (especially for those evening races)
  • Water and snacks to refuel afterwards

Race Day:

  1. Food: Stick to your usual breakfast routine, nothing fancy or new. I like to eat at least 2 hours before the race (3 hours for those evening races). Just continue your usual routine and what works for you!

  2. Stay Hydrated: But don't overdo it. Sip, don't chug!

  3. Music: Pop on some tunes to calm those nerves. It works wonders, trust me!

  4. Early Bird: Get there in plenty of time. You'll have time to find the bag drop and have a last minuet loo stop. Be prepared to que for the portaloo!
  5. Warm-Up: I like to ease into it with a 5-10 minute jog and some dynamic stretches. Stick to what you know and love.

And remember...

Good Luck! But most importantly, have a blast out there! This is your moment to shine and enjoy every step of the journey.

Happy Bimbling! 🏃‍♂️💨
